UPOP - Campfire Skills

For the Columbia Armory Program, Meredith Donaldson taught a fire building skills session for kids and encouraged the young adults to move beyond their comfort zones and forage for sticks and mulberries. The kids learned about different types of wood needed to build a fire, practiced singing a few campfire songs, and listened to a campfire safety lesson. They learned about the need for fire safety by problem solving some scenarios involving wet weather, cold weather, and accidental fires.

Next they made their own smores and hot dogs, and told each other ghost stories or camping memories.

The Urban Population Outreach Program (UPOP) is a joint project of FoRB and the Missouri Parks Association.
